Honors English Language Arts

Students who are enrolled in the Honors English Language Arts courses will be learning materials that is accelerated a grade beyond their grade level peers.

6th Grade

Students will be reading and analyzing a variety of genres as contained in the 7thgrade course text including but not limited to:

Students will continue to use the writing process as they write in the following styles:

7th Grade

Students will be reading, analyzing, and writing within a variety of genres as contained in the Eighth Grade course text, including but not limited to--

Correct grammatical skills will be demonstrated through exercises, writing, and speaking. Vocabulary development and listening skills will be stressed throughout all phases of this course, also. This class emphasizes higher-level thinking skills and creative thought. Students function as self-directed learners, as cooperative-group members, and in leadership roles.
 

8th Grade

The class is a one-year accelerated course for the self motivated learner. Students will be introduced to the various genre of classical and contemporary narrative and informational text that will be refined, applied, and extended as students engage in more complex ideas, texts, and tasks.

Students will focus on written and verbal communication skills, language usage, vocabulary usage, and listening. Students will connect with and respond to texts by analyzing relationships within and across families, communities, societies, economics, and governments. Through the lens of inter-relationships and self-reliance, they will consider how they build relationships, how their relationships impact others, and their responsibility to society.
